TRAVENTURE 4: Sand-Tastic, Perrysburg

What do a bear, a pile of sand and a shopping center have in common? ...

No, this isn't the beginning of a bad joke, but the tale of my latest TRAVENTURE. This past weekend, the Sand-Tastic festival took place in Perrysburg, Ohio at Levis Commons shopping center. This celebration involves the creation of four sand sculptures, a big sandbox for kids to play in and sidewalk art.

My mom and I observed as four sculptors took eights tons of sand and turned it into masterpieces. (Okay, so we actually didn't get to see the final products, but I have no reason not to assume they were masterpieces!)

This artist told us that he actually is better known for working with the medium of ice. He's currently ranked 7th in the nation for his ice sculptures, and although he's constructing a shark here, he said the animals he's best at carving are horses.

We also ate at a tapas restaurant called Poco Piatti. Tapas, which orginate in Spain, are small dishes that are usually shared among friends.

I love this type of dining because I'm able to try everything without committing to a specific dish.

Poco Piatti earned 7/10 stars, because the food didn't quite match the descriptions on the menu. However, the garlic feta dip receives my strongest recommendation!

After perusing the sand scuptures and shopping center, we drove to historic downtown Perrysburg and took in the quaint shops and history.

Did you know that Perrysburg, Ohio, and Washington D.C. are the only two cities created by Congress?

Thanks for joining me on this week's TRAVENTURE! Don't forget to check out my extra photos below of the river and downtown area.
